Maintenance: Honoring the Ritual

aintaining a Snorkel hot tub is less about "work" and more about honoring the sanctuary you’ve built. Because our tubs are Artistically Handcrafted from high-quality materials, they are designed to take care of you as much as you take care of them. As your Trusted Guide, we’ve simplified the process into a few "Wise" habits that ensure your tub remains a center of relaxation for decades.

Caring for the Wood: Nature’s Protection
The Western Red Cedar we use is a natural material with its own built-in defense systems.

  • Natural Resistance: Your tub is rich in Thujaplicans, natural fungicides that provide a powerful, built-in resistance to rot and decay.
  • The Silver Patina: Over time, the exterior of your cedar will naturally weather to a beautiful, distinguished silver-grey. If you prefer the original warm amber tones, a regular application of a high-quality UV-inhibiting oil will preserve the color.
  • A "Tight as a Drum" Seal: The wood maintains its seal through moisture. If you leave the tub dry for an extended period, the wood will shrink slightly. Instead keep your tub swelled, and every 5-7 years dry it out and retighten the bands before refilling it.

Water Chemistry: The Balanced Soak
Keeping your water clear and inviting is a matter of balance.

  • Chemical Mindfulness: While cedar is resilient, keeping your pH and sanitizer levels within the recommended range protects both your skin and your heating equipment.
  • ClearBlue™ Mineral Purity: For a more natural soaking experience, the ClearBlue Ionizer releases mineral ions that naturally inhibit algae and bacteria growth. This system provides crystal-clear water and a "softer" feel while significantly reducing the reliance on traditional chemicals.
  • The Filterpak Advantage: Specifically designed to complement our wood-fired tubs, the Filterpak removes debris and keeps water circulating. By integrating this system into your wood-fired ritual, you significantly reduce the need for sanitizers while maintaining the pristine water quality usually reserved for electric and gas systems. Add a ClearBlue Ionizer for even better water cleaning.
  • Fresh Water: We recommend a full water change every 1-3 months, depending on usage, to keep your ritual feeling crisp and clean.

Protective Measures: Saving Energy and Equipment
The most effective maintenance tool is a simple one: the cover.

  • Dual-Cover Efficiency: For our electric and gas-heated tubs, we highly recommend using a floating foam cover in tandem with our insulating vinyl cover. This "Wise" combination dramatically reduces heat loss and evaporation, lowering your energy costs.
  • Equipment Care: Our Power Pak control systems are outdoor-rated for durability, but a quick seasonal check for debris around the intake and changing or cleaning your filter will ensure it continues to run flawlessly.

Seasonal Shifts: Winter Wisdom
For those in colder climates, the transition to winter requires a few intentional steps.

  • Freeze Prevention: If you plan to keep your tub active through the winter, maintaining a baseline temperature (75–80°F for gas/electric) is essential to protect your plumbing and heat exchanger.
  • Winterization: If the tub will be dormant during a deep freeze, our Guides provide step-by-step instructions on draining the vessel and clearing the lines to prevent "freeze-bursts".
